He is a fully, legally bilingual and dual-licensed—Florida and Puerto Rico—domestic and international litigator and dispute resolution practitioner who concentrates his practice in business litigation as well as corporate advisory for businesses of all sizes as well as individuals.
Prior to hanging his own shingle, Raúl worked at Am Law 200 as well as mid-size firms. Raúl has represented major, domestic and international lending institutions and insurance corporations. He also has practiced international commercial litigation and securities arbitration representing investor-plaintiffs. Raúl has the ability to handle and provide counsel on diverse contractual agreements and disputes including, but not limited to, contractual disputes, shareholder/partnership disputes, fraud-based claims, non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants, etc. Raúl also is admitted to practice in the following federal courts: U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida; and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh and Fifth Circuits.
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Raúl attended Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola. Afterward, he attended Harvard University where he graduated with honors with a concentration in Social Anthropology and a minor in French studies. Later having studied law at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, Raúl possesses a dual Common Law and Civil Law (civil code) background and is fully fluent in legal-level Spanish and thus able to advocate and draft all manner of legal documents in Spanish, including court documents, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Prior to entering law school, Raúl worked as a corporate paralegal in the New York office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton and later worked as a staffer for a former President of the United States and then a national presidential political campaign organizing events all over the country. Raúl also later obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law from the University of Miami School of Law specializing in international arbitration.
A firm believer in giving back to the community, Raúl has participated in pro bono cases including a four-year immigration-related legal representation of a Central American unaccompanied minor seeking state dependency and later residency by way of a visa. Raúl also served as a Big Brother (mentor of at-risk youth) with Big Brothers and Sisters of Miami and has been an undergraduate interviewer for Harvard University for two decades.
On a personal note, Raúl has spent considerable time living and working abroad, due in part to his passion for languages as evidenced by his extensive studies of multiple languages—he is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese, and proficient in Italian.
